Zen Center of Richmond

The Zen Center of Richmond provides a warm and open environment to practice in the Soto Zen tradition under the guidance of Lou Mitsunen Nordstrom Roshi, and in the White Plum lineage, as founded by Taizan Maezumi Roshi. Ekoji Buddhist Sangha

This temple houses a multi-denominational community of Buddhist and Buddhist-inspired groups, including Jodo-Shin Pure Land, Vipassana, Kagyu Tibetan, Zen, Meditative Inquiry, and Bon Tibetan. All are open to the public. Brief meditation instruction is also offered.

Shambhala Richmond

Founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Shambhala Buddhism is a path for integrating practice with societal life, grounded in principles such as basic goodness and enlightened society. This meditation and study group meets Saturday afternoons. One Saturday each month a half-day mini-retreat is held.

Sit and Sutta Study (S-cubed)

This group brings together individuals interested in mindfulness meditation and/or Buddhism to help deepen the intellectual and phenomenological understanding of meditation practice. Meets Thursday evenings for sitting meditation, study of the teachings of the historical Buddha, and teachings-related group dialogue. A registered Virginia Commonwealth University student group.

Mindfulness Meditation for Richmond

Practice groups meet every two weeks or so for two hours. The gatherings include meditation, check-in, teaching by two individuals trained at the Insight Meditation Community of Washington DC, and open conversation. Groups meet in a Fall Series, Winter Series, and Spring Series of 6-7 sessions each, and each with a theme. Day-long silent meditation retreats and individual mentoring or coaching are also available.
